Task 3 Digital Triptych

LECTURE

The objective of this assignment is to apply Scott McCloud's theory on transitions to create a digital triptych, comprising three panels: one before, one during (climactic turning point), and one after a significant event. Each panel will represent a different transition type from McCloud's theory.

Referencing Scott McCloud's analysis of transitions in "Understanding Comics," you will select one panel before and one panel after the climactic turning point, surrounding a panel representing the turning point itself. Each panel will exemplify a different transition type, creating a digital triptych that showcases various narrative transitions.

  • Review Scott McCloud's transitions: moment-to-moment, action-to-action, subject-to-subject, scene-to-scene, aspect-to-aspect.
  • Select one transition type for each of the three panels: before, during (climactic turning point), and after the turning point.
  • Identify specific moments or elements in the narrative that align with the chosen transitions.
  • Create a digital triptych with three panels that clearly illustrate the chosen transitions.
  • Use any digital medium (illustration software, graphic design tools, etc.) to craft the panels.
  • Ensure coherence and narrative flow between the panels, capturing the essence of the transitions selected.
  • Submit the completed digital triptych via the designated platform.
  • Include a brief explanation for each panel, detailing the chosen transition and its significance in the narrative context.
  • Ensure that each panel distinctly represents its respective transition type.
  • Understanding and application of Scott McCloud's theory on transitions in creating the digital triptych.
  • Clarity and effectiveness in using each transition to depict the sequential narrative.
  • Coherence and visual storytelling across the three panels.
  • Artistic execution and presentation of the digital triptych.

Submission deadline for the completed digital triptych is at the end of Week 11.

This assignment contributes 20% towards your final grade. Grading will consider adherence to instructions, effective application of transitions, narrative coherence, and artistic presentation within the digital triptych.

INSTRUCTIONS

On our last class with Mr Hafiz he gave us an example of how transitions are used and different other transitions also, for us to create our transition we have to use the urban legend that we have illustrated to create three scenes and also have to choose a transition from the ones he has given us in the online class he was showing us.

He also explains to us how the different transitions are used and the relation between, like above there some examples of some transitions. And we also choose if we want to create another urban legend if we want to.

For this lesson i choose to continue with my urban legend the headless woman than rather starts all over from scratch to create a new urban legend before i choose a transition i wanted to put down my sketches first to know where i wanted to come up with.

This was my mood board for the urban legend where it all started from the beginning.

sketches from before the first panel of the urban legend.

Fig 1.2 my first plane of my urban legend

Fig 1.3 this was my first plane for the three transitions.

1. The sun is setting as the water and sky change color blending with the sun.
2. The original one where the men saw the woman from a distance.
3. They as the sun has set the woman without no head is just standing there on the beach.

And then i asked Mr. Hafiz for his advice and he said that he was not understanding the story is was not making sense but then i think to myself it is true i can see for myself and i need to fix it i wanted a scene-to-scene transition.

And then i came up with this one was the men where a boat going to the island as it follows when the have arrived and saw the woman and the final seeing the back side where you can see all from one angel.

REFLECTIONS
Experience

Digitizing the urban legend of the headless woman was an experience for me first time creating something from scratch head to toes it was fun for me creating a triptych that made realized the modern technology there is more than that itself that taking a story that your where lots when you small as a kid when telling scary legends and other that you haven't seen with your own eyes that you have digitally created.

Observation

By observing the concept of my own thinking for my design i realized what Mr. Hafiz Onces said that it is not just about the design good it is about a good composition and the meaning be hide it and me by going back and front with this assignment the deadline was near i was struggling with finishing it on time without messing up but in the and by finishing it it was worth it.

Findings

From what I have learn with creating digital version of the legend in Seychelles on silhouette island came in the virtual life as i was thinking by choosing the concept i found that even though it is a legend by taking this and making it came to life was an experience for me to see.
